DAFT, Charles Frederick, Jnr.

Charles Frederick Daft, Jnr., born in 1892 in Nottingham, was the eldest son of Charles Frederick Daft, Snr. and Alice Maud Wallis who had married in 1891.

His mother had died in August 1918 at the age of 51 and Charles Frederick Jnr. who, like his father, was employed by Messrs. Thomas Adams, Lace Manufacturers, Nottingham, was on a business visit to Ireland with his father. The Dafts lived at 28 William Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham. A younger son, Arthur Wallis, had joined the Royal Navy the previous May, continuing with a career in the Royal Navy and serving in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve in the Second World War.

The Dafts were very involved in sport and Charles Jnr. was a proficient batsman, both at school and subsequently. Both he and his father were members of the Rushcliffe Freemasons Lodge.

Both Charles Jnr. and his father were lost in the sinking of the RMS Leinster and are commemorated on the family headstone in Nottingham Church (Rock) Cemetery.
